Asheville Named a Dog-friendly Region

Woof! DogFriendly.com released its list of top 10 dog-friendly resort regions in the United States for 2009. Asheville made the list due to the quality of dog-friendly accommodations, things to do with your dog, dog parks and dog-friendly patio dining.

We traveled to Asheville recently and atayed at the Asheville Swiss Chalets. This is a great place to stay and is very dog friendly! We went to several dog parks and found that although they were adequate...they could use some improvement. I guess we are spoiled because where we live (in South Carolina) we have a local park that is just the best! It has a lake - and the fenced dog park is on one side of the lake. There are three sandy areas where the dogs can swim. Our dog jsut loves this park because all she wants to do is fetch the ball in the water! We did find a small lake near one of the dog parks in Asheville but it was outside the gate. I am sure there is some concern about dog waste getting into the water but owners are pretty responsible so it should not be a big problem. We will definately be returning to Asheville soon and hope to find another park or two with water access for dogs (maybe we missed them)?
