No, it's not a typo. Asheville has a new moniker - Bee City USA. Asheville City Council voted unanimously on June 26 to designate Asheville the inaugural Bee City USA. Asheville is one of the first cities to champion pollinators and educate residents and businesses about the essential role of the honey bee and other pollinators in making our world bloom and fruit.

National Honey Bee Day is on August 18 and offers the perfect occasion to celebrate Asheville's designation as the inaugural Bee City USA. Join the fun at the Asheville City Market (161 S. Charlotte Street) from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. There will be educational activities, honey tasting, and a scavenger hunt for foods that are pollinated by honey bees. Beekeeping attire is encouraged.
