Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway "America's Favorite Drive." Winding 469 miles through mountain meadows and past seemingly endless vistas, you should take time to enjoy the experience.
Those in a hurry might not find time to appreciate the split-rail fences, old farmsteads and historic structures that complement spectacular views of distant mountains and neighboring valleys. Remember, the parkway is not a journey to the next place, it's the destination itself - constructed for leisure drives, biking and outdoor recreation.
The Parkway incorporates several recreation areas, some exceeding 6,000 acres. These parks within the Parkway have visitor centers, camp grounds, picnic areas, trails and, in many instances, concessionaire-operated lodges, restaurants, and other facilities.
